TEAM HISTORY

Picture
When was the team formed?

We started working together in 2010 during the FLL Body Forward Challenge.  In 2011 we participated in the Food Factor Challenge and took the name Heat it up or Keep it cool after the “Food Safety” zone and because we felt it was a clever way to represent our team philosophy.  In 2012 we changed the name slightly to Heat it up and Keep it cool and participated in the Senior Solutions Challenge, in 2013 we took on the Nature’s Fury Challenge and 2014 graduated to FTC as a team.

What have we accomplished?

1.    In addition to participating in FLL challenges since 2010, we were an LA Regional FLL Ambassador Team between  2011 and 2014.

2.    We presented at  the 2013 PTC conference in Anaheim and spoke with 500+ professionals over a two day period.

3.    We presented at the 2013 Los Angeles FRC regional tournament where we spoke with 1,000+ students and parents over a two day              period

4.    We’ve presented to the students, teachers, administrators, and parents at numerous school events

9.    We provided guidance and advice to another 20+ FLL teams and coaches before and during competitions.

10. As a group, we provided more than 150 hours of volunteer effort in preparation for and during the running of the 2013 Canoga Park FLL Qualifying Tournament. Team members trained referees and acted as table resetters, judging assistants, and runners while coaches and mentors took on judging and tournament director roles

11. As a group, we provided more than 120 hours of volunteer effort during the running of the December 15, 2013 LA Regional Championship FLL Tournament. Team members trained new referees and acted as table resetters, judging assistants, and runners while coaches and mentors took on judging and refereeing roles.

12. As a rookie FTC team we were promoted to the Western Super Regional in 2014.

13.  We've mentored FLL teams from Hacienda Heights CA, Pittsburgh PA, Davenport IA, Santa Clarita CA, and have maintained friendships with teams in Mexico and Estonia

What is FIRST Tech Challenge ?

It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!”
Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages, including Java. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting FIRST Championship.  - FIRSTInspires.org
