2017 Outreach Programs

Summer Junior Robotics Program,
​June to September 2017 for children 5 to 10 years old.
Location: Newhall Library

Meetings are Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. .  en into 5 teams and mentored on basic programming, design and presentation skills, using the WEDO kit, NXT Mindstorms kit and the EV3 Mindstorms kit..  
FIRST Lego League Season Kick off Workshop,  September 3rd  2017.   Barnes and Noble Valencia
​Session One 11 am-1:30, Session two 2-4 pm.    Come join us in discussing the new Hydro Dynamics challenge.  We will discuss the new challenge missions, research project and presentation style in the LA region.  Open to team coaches and team members.

​This season began in July where we reviewed last season and began our outreach activities. We decided to focus our efforts on promoting FLL in Santa Clarita and to support LA FLL.  We built 8 FSK's, held an FLL Season Kick off event for 10 teams and Co-Hosted the West Ranch FLL QT with FRC Team 691 for 22 teams.

What is FIRST Tech Challenge ?

It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!”
Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages, including Java. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting FIRST Championship.  - FIRSTInspires.org
